Investments Retirement Estate Planning Inheritance Taxation Protection
If you own a business, have you done these three things?

Working with business owners across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and the surrounding counties, Oundle-based Chartered Financial Planners, Accession, have launched a free ‘Secure your family’s legacy’ guide. The booklet provides practical solutions – including three things you should be doing now - for business owners in the face of the proposed changes to Inheritance Tax and Business Relief.
Director of Accession and Chartered Financial Planner, Emma Wilcock, BA (Hons) FPFS, said: “The impact of the changes proposed in last year’s Autumn Budget means that strategic planning for the succession of family-owned businesses is now more important than ever.”
Business owners must act now to:
- Review investments and assets
- Equalise ownership between spouses
- Develop strategies for estate preservation
As a reminder, as things stand, proposed legislation has been made so that Agricultural Relief and Business Relief is capped from 6th April 2026, while for the first time, unspent pensions become subject to Inheritance Tax at 40% from 6th April 2027 if they are left to anyone that isn’t a spouse.
One business owner in Cambridgeshire said: “Emma has provided us with advice on investments as a family and guided us through various wealth management issues. She has given help to my wife and daughters as well as the wider family which has been invaluable in planning business succession and in managing our tax liabilities. With the forthcoming changes in inheritance tax rules, she will be an invaluable source of advice as we change structures and land ownership to try to mitigate the effects of the changes.”
Accession is a firm of chartered financial planners based in Oundle, Northamptonshire, specialising in financial advice for farmers, landowners and business owners. Directors, Emma Wilcock and Richard Jones have each worked in financial services for over 20 years alongside a dedicated and growing team including fellow Chartered Financial Planner, Joe Moricca MSc APFS, to support a range of clients with their financial planning.
